What is Ice-O-Lator (Bubble Hash)?
Ice-O-Lator is a concentrate of cannabis resin glands (trichomes) produced using ice water and filtration bags. This process yields a pure, potent product.
Required materials and equipment
- Cannabis flowers or trimmings
- Bubble bag set (various sieve sizes, e.g. 220 µm to 25 µm)
- Large bucket (10–20 liters)
- ice cubes
- Stirring tool (e.g. wooden spoon or electric hand mixer)
- Water (cold)
- Drying sieve or parchment paper
Step-by-step instructions for making Ice-O-Lator
Step 1: Prepare the material
- Roughly chop the cannabis flowers or trimmings.
- Fill the bucket about halfway with ice and water.
Step 2: Prepare bubble bags
- Place the bubble bags one at a time into a second, empty bucket. Start with the finest mesh size (e.g., 25 µm) and work your way up to the largest (220 µm).
Step 3: Mix cannabis and ice water
- Place the cannabis material into the first bucket of ice water.
- Stir or mix the mixture vigorously for 15-20 minutes to loosen the trichomes from the plants.
Step 4: Filtration through bubble bags
- Slowly pour the mixture into the bucket containing the bubble bags.
- Lift out the bags one at a time. The trichomes will stick to the bottom of the finer bags.
- Use a spoon or spatula to carefully remove the resin.
Step 5: Drying the Ice-O-Lator
- Spread the collected resin on a drying sieve or parchment paper.
- Let it dry in a cool, dark place for several days until the moisture is gone. Alternatively, you can use a freezer dryer, but that's far too expensive for home use.
- Another option is to put it in a pizza box and then in the freezer.
Tips for best results
- Use fresh, frozen cannabis material for the highest quality.
- Make sure the resin clumps are completely dry to avoid mold growth.
- The finer the sieve, the higher the quality of the final product.
