Germinate seeds

Germinating cannabis seeds is the first step in growing cannabis. There are several methods for doing this, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the most common methods:

1. Paper towel method

Materials:

  • Cannabis seeds
  • Two paper towels
  • Two plates or a plastic bag

Directions:

  1. Moisten two paper towels with water, but not so much that they drip.
  2. Place the seeds on one of the damp paper towels.
  3. Cover the seeds with the second damp paper towel.
  4. Place the paper towels between two plates or in a plastic bag to retain moisture.
  5. Place the whole thing in a warm, dark place (about 20-25°C).
  6. Check the seeds daily and keep the paper towels moist.
  7. After 2-7 days the seeds should germinate and show small roots.

2. Directly into soil

Materials:

  • Cannabis seeds
  • Growing soil or special germination soil
  • Small pots or growing containers

Directions:

  1. Fill small pots or growing containers with soil.
  2. Make a small hole (about 0.5 cm deep) in the soil.
  3. Place the seed in the hole and cover it lightly with soil.
  4. Carefully moisten the soil with water.
  5. Place the pots in a warm, bright location (but not direct sunlight).
  6. Keep the soil moist, but not wet.
  7. The seeds should germinate within 7-14 days.

3. Water method

Materials:

  • Cannabis seeds
  • Glass or cup with water

Directions:

  1. Fill a glass or mug with lukewarm water.
  2. Put the seeds in the water.
  3. Place the jar in a warm, dark place (about 20-25°C).
  4. Check the seeds daily and change the water every few days.
  5. After 24 to 48 hours, some seeds should begin to germinate; if not, leave them in the water for a few more days.

4. Jiffy pellets

Materials:

  • Cannabis seeds
  • Jiffy pellets (peat soaking pots)
  • Water

Directions:

  1. Soak the Jiffy pellets in water until they are completely swollen.
  2. Gently press on the pellets to remove excess water.
  3. Place the seed about 0.5 cm deep into the pellet.
  4. Place the pellets in a warm, bright place (but not direct sunlight).
  5. Keep the pellets moist, but not wet.
  6. The seeds should germinate within 7-14 days.

Tips for all methods:

  • Use clean, chlorine-free water (preferably distilled or filtered water).
  • Make sure there are no temperature fluctuations; consistent heat promotes germination.
  • Avoid touching the seedlings unnecessarily; they are very delicate.

Good luck germinating your cannabis seeds!
